Why sleeping well is important 2017/04/27

According to a recent study made with two thousand children of ages from 0 to 14 years old, 70% of them DO NOT rest adequately during the night.

Approximately half of the test group shows the sleep on their own bed, 40% of them on their parents’ beds and the rest in a sofa.

Many children invade their parents’ bed during the night, others have water before going to bed with the risk of wetting the bed.

70% of the older children sleep with an electronic device nearby: television, tablet, cellphone instead of a good book and parents admit having woken up in the middle of the night to find the television or computer turned on by their children.

Only 10% of the test group shows that they read a book or fairy tale.

A nice and repairing sleep is essential to eliminate the fatigue accumulated during the day. Sleeping well isn’t lost or stolen time for other activities.

Try sleeping less hours than usual: how would you feel the next day? Surely tired and irritable, you’ll fight to concentrate and will feel slow moving. Imagine what it can mean for a child to not sleep adequately...

In the long run, lack of rest transforms into little disorders that with time become more obvious, like real difficulties to relate with society, classmates or coworkers, in a deficient control of behavior, aggressiveness, depression and/or learning problems.

So, how much should we be sleeping? Considering that every person is different and that for some 4 hours of rest is enough and for others 20 are little, on average, during the 24 hours of the day, an adult should rest up to 7 to 9 hours, a teenager 8 to 10 hours, an elementary school student 10-12 hours, a child in kindergarten age between 12 and 14 hours, while a baby up to 18 hours.

There are those who fall asleep easily and those who have difficulty relaxing, for some it’s enough with a few hours of sleep, while others would never get out of bed... we are all different, even each of our children; what’s important is to find our own ways to rest adequately, which is why it’s necessary and works to “recharge batteries” to confront the day after.
