One book per Friend 2016/10/13

Do you like to read? And your children?

Who knows why, most of the time, the love for reading is a quality acquired while growing up.

During school learning period it has always been imposed onus, but as Gianni Rodari said, the verb read should never be imperative.

We have to involve and educate lecture to the little ones from a young age, without forcing them, otherwise a contrary effect will be obtained. Everything that is a lullaby, a chorus or a cartoon should find its space on the day-to-day nature as a moment of love and care, which cannot be given up.

Starting at 6 months old a baby can handle objects, therefore can also hold a small book in their hands, better if it is resistant and safe, printed in shinny colors and non toxic because I can guarantee you they will taste its… yes they will…

Towards the age of one year it is interesting to see how the child recognizes objects and figures in books… houses, trees, toys and everyday things, even trying to pronounce any word.

At the age of 2, however, the child manages to flick through the book and can start following it while short illustrated tales are being read to them. Let the child take the book and indicate the figures while you read to them so they associate the words with images.

At 3-4 years old, let the child choose a new book according to what they like. Read the title and try to ask them what they think the book is about.

With elementary school children learn to read and write, therefore, the reading moment could be shared: meaning, some sentences could be read by the child as long as they want and then you could proceed.

Unfortunately towards the ages of 12-13, the “recommended” lectures by teachers become mandatory and this eliminates the passion for reading books. Do not torment your children also! If you have done a good job before, you will see how the love for reading revives like a flower!

As Joseph Addison said (British politician and writer who lived between 1600 and 1700) “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”.

Happy reading everyone!
