TUTORIAL ON HOW TO CREATE A FABRIC BUNNY 2015/03/26

Today’s proposal is to make an adorable fabric bunny, ideal for first years of our baby, on Baby Shower decorations and very in tune with Easter.

Materials

  • Fabric
  • Threads
  • Waddle
  • Black and pink beads
  • Beading needle
  • 1 cm thick ribbon
  • Scissors, needles

Measurements, we cut a 25 x 12 cm rectangle

We fold the fabric and sew to close the square leaving around 4 cm open to turn the square, hot iron and again sew by the fold.

We prepare a needle with double thread, this gives 4 threads in total, this will give firmness when we stretch the thread.

On top of the fabric we will stitch following the shape shown on the model, when completing the triangle we stretch the thread firmly, this will create a hole where we will put the waddle in, stretch to close.

Now we go to the part of the body, first by the edge of the shown fabric we stitch again, place the waddle of the body and stretch the thread, giving some stitches to keep this part firm and continue to close the body with stitches we can keep invisible.

This stitch and the one on the head we have to close them in a way they are hidden.

Eyes: on the back part (where we made the closings for the head and body) we will put the needle in, once the eyes are positioned, we stretch to form the eye socket, we close the stitch again on the back.

Nose: it is the same process as the eyes, but here we wont stretch the thread. I have tried to embroider the mouth to the bunny with a pink thread, then I have just applied the nose almost aligned to the eyes without the mouth embroidery, personally I have really liked the second version.

For security pass the thread two times on the beads and make firm knots, both the starting and the closing, this will avoid them falling easily or breaking if stretched.

And of course, we can’t miss the tail

Sewn with some hidden stitches

For out bunny, I have chosen a 1 cm thick and 15 cm long ribbon. Sewn it with transparent nylon thread.

Here all done

To use it a centerpiece just use a pastel colored base, hay, put it on top and maybe accompany it with some chocolates or candies.

Here it is preparing to go to the party

Ready, waiting to be picked up
