Tutorial how to make a denim bag with crochet 14/10/2022

Through this guide, I will show you how to create a bag that brings together denim fabric and crochet knitting.

You will be able to use as “candy bags” in girl or young ladies’ parties, make them with time and make extra bags because surely everybody will love them.

Materials

• Denim fabric (gabardine, thin canvas, jacquard)
• Fabric for lining (taffeta, silk, cotton, gabardine)
• Nylon thread No. 9 for crochet (cotton No. 4)
• Sewing thread of the colors of the fabrics
• Knitting hook (number, follow the package instructions)
• Fine knitting hook (or a thick needle)

In the material I have written more options of fabrics and threads to choose or exchange according to your country, basically the exterior fabric has to be firm and resistant to be able to join the knitting work.

For the bag I have realized one piece of denim is needed and other for lining of 34 cm x 25 cm.

Fold each piece facing the right side of the fabric and sew the side ends, then on each corner of these pieces sew forming a triangle 3 cm from the point.

Introduce the lining to the body of the bag matching the side seams, it is very important that the outer fabric is 0.5 cm above the lining and sew with a margin of 1 cm inwards. Apply pins to facilitate the seam between both pieces.

For the crochet we will place the first round only over the denim fabric, reckon that the number of stitches from one side of the bag be the same for the opposite side and for these to be even numbers. In my bag I have 34 stitches per side. To obtain a better precision, use a ruler and a pencil and mark each stitch approximately every 0.5 cm or adjust these stitches to your fabric, the important thing is that the number is an even number. To facilitate inserting the hook in this thick fabric, use a fine hook or a very thick sewing needle.

From now on you have the liberty to choose the fantasy stitch of your preference, there are so many! Or you can follow the diagram I have selected.

The height of the knitted section of my bag measures 8 cm, finishing off with 3 rounds of single crochet.

Once finished the knitted part, we will knit the handle like this: in a symmetrical manner, start setting 6 double crochet in one side of the bag. In the second round, go up with 3 d.c. and knit 4 d.c. between the d.c. 3 and 4 of the previous round, finish the round and repeat until obtaining the ideal length. For a girl it varies between 85 cm and 95 cm in length; for a young lady or woman between 100 cm and 110 cm.
