The house on the woods with felt, DIY 2018/05/08

Materials

  • A tin can
  • Felt of different colors.
  • Cloth lining
  • Threads of different colors.
  • Needle and pins
  • Scissors, pencil

To facilitate the construction of the house, we will relay on the can we chose: measure the circumference directly or remove the labels to obtain exact measurements.

Below, here is the model of the elements of the house: print and cut whichever you want! You can design as many as you wish to add to customize the house to your liking.

Now comes the nice part: the needlework of each felt element that decorate the house.

Place the windows to your liking or add more butterflies; notice how I used the festoon stitch to sew the doors, windows, hearts and cats. The lilies are made in Rococo style and the stems with the daisy stitch.

I made the carpet with a thin rope rolled up from the center part and I gradually sewed until the end of the rope.

Another detail is the butterfly on the ceiling: this details bring out your work.

For the inside coating, the circumference of the edge of the can and the base again, plus 1cm more for the seams. Cut both pieces, sew along the rectangle of the house (see the first picture) using the sewing machine or sewing by hand. To facilitate the sewing, I advise you arrange it with pins first.

I sew the base of the circle by hand using the back stitch. Now introduce the lining in the can to make sure that it’s okay. To be sure, try it before and during the process.

For the ceiling draw a circle, preferably with a compass and locate the center; cut a little more than 1/4 of the ceiling to obtain a pointy ceiling (130°), sew the ends and, if desired, embroider the border of the ceiling with the festoon stitch

Now we will sew the exterior of the house, then we will place the already embroiled felt in the can.

The lining seams and the felt must be aligned for a better result.

Pin the fabric and place a piece of felt (I chose white) between the two fabrics. This piece must be the same color as the ceiling and we use it to paste the ceiling. We sew the contour on the top part of the house using the invisible stitch.

Once the top sewing is done, we start sewing the lateral union: I used a fuchsia color thread, but you can use a beige color thread or one of your choosing to avoid outstanding the union.

Then sew the base.

Here is our forest house finished, I hope you like it... I know you will.
