Leaf turkey (Tutorial for children) 2014/11/19

We have thought about making an easy craft with the children for Thanksgiving Day, the party celebrated in the United States the fourth Thursday of November and in Canada on the second Monday of October.

The first Thanksgiving Day goes back commonly to 1621, when in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the pilgrim fathers got together to thank “The Lord” for the good harvest. Since then, families continue getting together at home (never in a restaurant according to tradition) for a turkey-based dinner.

Here is a simple idea for children: it can be used to create invitations, place markers or simple decorations for this event.

Needed material:

  • Dry leaves
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Colored paper (orange, red and brown)
  • Plastic eyes

We start to look for dry leaves, which on this season wont be hard to find! We take some and clean them.

We paste the leaves on the paper we want to use; then we draw the body of a turkey on top of the brown paper. We add the eyes, peak and legs and paste everything!

And here it is! A cute and easy craft to make with your children.
