Recipe to prepare Strudel Roses 2014/11/18

This beautiful version of the strudel, from Turkey, is very much loved by the Hungarians, Austrians and naturally, also by the Italians

With this roses you can close with a gold clasp an anniversary dinner, celebrate grandma’s birthday, celebrate Woman’s Day or simply prepare them to share with your friends or at home with your family accompanied by hot chocolate

Preparation time:

45-50 minutes

Ingredients for 6 Strudel Roses:

• One roll of rectangular puff pastry

• 2 medium apples

• One handful of pecans or pine nut

• One handful of raisins

• 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

• ½ teaspoon of nutmeg

• juice of half a green lemon

• ¾ of a cup of water

• 20 grams of butter

• 3 ½ tablespoons of cane sugar

Peel and cut the apples in slices, place them on a bowl or deep dish, add the lemon juice and one tablespoon of brown sugar, let them absorb the flavor for 10 minutes

In a casserole, add the apples, nuts, raisins, the leftover brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, water and butter and cook for 10 minutes at medium heat.

Once cooked, let cool

Cut the puff pastry in strips of 18 to 20 cm long and 8 cm wide (practically 3 strips are cut lengthwise and then these are cut in half)

On one of the cut strips, place 3 slices of apple on the upper part (lengthwise), with the round part towards the outside. Then, with a teaspoon, take some of the mixture and fill the interior in a uniform way, leaving some millimeters empty in the end to be able to close the roses

Wrap the dough by the middle

Pinch the dough with a fork

Then, very carefully roll the puff pastry in a maelstrom (it’s not called “strudel”, which means swirl, for nothing), this way you’ll form the roses. Close the ends well, maybe with a little bit of butter. Proceed in the same way with the rest of the dough

Preheat the oven at 180°C. Place the roses in an oven tray covered in oven paper and bake for 25-30 minutes

Strudel roses are ready when they are brown. Serve while warm!

You can serve these delicious roses in a Shabby Chic themed party, so romantic like roses and as sweet as the smell of strudel!
