Baby Colic. Causes, Symptoms, Advice and Massages 2015/11/19

Colic is pain that the newborn feels until their third and/or fourth month of life in a digestive and intestinal level.

One of the causes is immaturity of this system: in the maternal womb the baby feeds through the umbilical cord, therefore, digestion is a process that the stomach and intestine need to “get used to” after birth.

Another reason can be the presence of intestinal gas that the little one is fighting to release.

Colic occurs almost daily. The bay manifests this pain with restlessness, contracts and stretches their legs nervously and cries… well screams…

Here are some tips to prevent colic… try it at least!

- Stop the feeding for a few seconds and restart again.

- Make sure the baby makes the typical burp at the end of each meal.

- If they use a bottle make sure the baby does not continue sucking when the milk is gone to not swallow air.

- Practice a belly massage during the day

And how are the massages done?

Relax your baby, depending on the season choose to leave them clothed or just with the diaper, in this case, rub your hands to warm them up. You can use baby oil.

- One of the most popular massages is the little hole in the sand: starting from the top of the belly button “make a hole” going down, with open hands and closed fingers, alternating the left and the right hand, ten times.

- “I Love yoU” massage: draw the letters I L U in their little belly!

Using 2 or 3 fingers.

I: from the left side (where the last part of the intestine is) mark an I from the ribs to the hips.

L: start from the right at the height of the stomach of your baby and continue with the massage towards the left, then repeat the letter I

U: from the child’s hip, go up to the height of the stomach and repeat the movement of the last letters to finish the massage on the left hip of the child. Tell your child I.LU. a dozen times!

- Lotus flower: straighten your babies legs, then make sure they cross them with light pressure and rock them or swing them slowly.

If your baby suffers from colic, you can ask your pediatrician for advice for an eventual prescription of anti gas or integrative medicine.
