The Psychology of the Gift: Choosing the gifts 2015/12/22

Did you know there is a real psychology of the gift?

Yes… because gifting something to someone is a significant action through which we manifest our personality in function of who should receive it.

For example the “correct” gift, chosen carefully, indicates kinship between both parts; on the contrary the “wrong” gift could be a sign of disinterest or indifference.

A very charged, cheesy, vulgar or played out gift will indicate egocentrism and bad taste.

A gift chosen at the last minute, knowing the receiver already has all they need, is superficiality factor.

Those who give a gift first should know that giving, without expecting anything in return, with affection and cleary based on their possibilites.

Those who receive, in return, should know how to accept gifts without many expectations and avoid disapointments.

We teach our child how to give and how to receive froma an early age!

Just for the chidlren: remember that a present is a sinonim of a gift, a thought… not a toy.

The child who receives clothes or books often doesn’t like it.

So it is mom and dad’s job to explain how useful this objects are which were not on their wish list!

Nothing about comparisons or competitions with sibilings and overall coherence. If he wants a huge car track and she wants a DVD, do not compare the packaging or the purchase, remembering that they have trusted their wishes and hopes in the Christmas letter and have gotten what they asked for.

If their wish list is longer than the shopping list, establish a limit. One, three, ten, twenty gifts, you will decide according to the childs necesities and your budget. Sometimes children need to be routed or directed to form their personality…

Then we know that Christmas is Christmas and I am sure that we will get a liitle carried away… in Christmas we all go back to being like little children…
