The magic of Christmas, a story to tell to the little ones 2015/12/17

When you grow up, you forget the magic of Christmas. Many times it is found again when we become parents trying to recreate for our children the same atmosphere in which we grew up.

Taking inspiration from other Christmas stories, watching our children and our house, we can adapt the story to tell the children on Christmas Eve, making them go to sleep filled with hopes and joy…

This is my story…

It had been a long and cold winter day. The girls, in the morning, had opened the last window in the Advent calendar and finally that night some of their wishes would come true.

Before going to bed, next to the Christmas tree they prepared, a plate with their favorite cookies, a cup of milk and a carrot.

Without making a fuss they put their pajamas on, brushed their teeth and went under the blankets. The good night kiss that night was very special!

The silence and peace ruled the house, while the little sisters dreamt sweet thoughts with smell of cookies and candies.

Suddenly, outside, a huge noise was heard and the girls woke up startled. But, what was happening?

They took strength and were encouraged to open the window and look outside. The moonlight on the freshly fallen snow, made the garden, the trees, the slide, and the play house shimmer and shine… everything was white and quite, when suddenly a red shimmer flickered in front of their eyes and then silence again. The girls where scared but curious and the continued watching.

From above, a faint red light was getting closer and in front of them nine reindeers paraded and a sleigh driven by him…yes precisely him, Santa Claus had arrived!

His reindeers were faster than eagles and he called them by name: Rudolph was the reindeer that guided them al and had this funny red nose which lit the road. Behind and in pairs Dasher and Dancer, followed by Prancer and Vixen then Comet and Cupid and finally Donder and Blitzen.

HO HO HOOOO! Rudolph! Go to that roof! Santa Claus yelled.

The reindeers jumped on the roof and then went back down. Immediately after, bangs on the ceiling tiles and then a deaf noise was heard.

The girls ran out of their room, went running downstairs and hid behind the couch. “Silence”, whispered the older sister to the young one.

There were still noises from the ceiling tiles, then a deaf noise and as soon as they turned they saw that Santa Claus had come down from the chimney.

He was dressed in red velvet and a soft white skin form head to toe. He had a black belt with a golden buckle and also black gloves and boots. His eyes! How his eyes shimmered! And the dimples! He was so smiley! His cheeks were red from the cold and his nose looked like a cherry in his beard white like the snow. He was chubby and tall and looked an adult elf.

He placed his big and heavy bag on the floor, took a cookie and ate it. The crumbs fell in his beard, then, he drank the milk and put the carrot in his pocket.

The girls laughed and he saw them in their hiding spot. He smiled and winked his eye. He didn’t say a word, he kneeled and opened the bag. He carefully looked fro two presents with big bows and placed them on the floor at the foot of the tree. He carried the bag on his shoulder, put his finger on his nose, nodded and then disappeared through the chimney.

He whistled at the reindeer, jumped on the sleigh, again the sound of the ceiling tiles and then silence.

The girls hurried back tot heir room and looked through the window. They could only see that red light vanishing and disappear in the darkness of the night on its way to another child’s home in the world.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! HO HO HOOO!
