How to make a Crochet Shawl or short-bodied cardigan 10/17/2017

For the cold nights during which we have some events, what do you say about making a beautiful crochet shawl? It’s really simple and fast to make. In black or white, you’ll have an original clothing accessory.

Materials 

• Eight or ten beige cotton 
• Number 2 needle

Scheme of the fantasy we will follow; if you want to make an elegant accessory, choose black or white silk threads 

Instructions to cut from medium to large 

For the shawl processing, we start by knitting a base chain of 30 cm in length.

It has to be a multiple of 10 chains plus one chain; this is found in the center part of the garment. We will wrap 30 cm to one side and close, to continue this same base chain to work other 30 cm on the opposite side, for a total of 60 cm in width.

Consider the tension you apply to your fabric while you work to keep this measurements, for example, in my work I’ve knitted 16 wide motifs and 31 length loops (length). Here I show the dimensions of the shawl folded in half in the whole length

Fantasy for the shawl’s contour 

Turn 1: 3 low stitches in each space of the horizontal upper stitches from the shawl’s body

Round 2: 3 length chains plus 2 high stitches, one chain in the air, 3 high stitches, one chain in the air, repeat the whole round, close with a very low stitch

Round 3: 2 chains in the air, in the free chain from last round we hook 2 high stitches plus one chain in the air and 2 high stitches, 2 chains and we hook the next free chain, we close with a low mesh

The union of the sides, which form the sleeves, is made when we knit the end to the whole contour, we combine the a stitches with b and c with d; from an armpit to hide the start and finish points

In the same way, the contours of each sleeve, we knit the fantasy edge. 

Watch how it covers your shoulders with these dimensions. Keep in mind that the threads, wool or prints can extend or shrink with use and washing, knowing that the material which we worked with will give you the best results. 

For a specific size, with the measuring tape we measure the length from one armpit to the other going through the back side of the neck: this measurement will be the length of the shoulder cover. The width measurement is obtained with the measure from the whole arm width that is closest to the armpit
