Fun facts about the Easter tree 2014/04/12

It’s a not very popular tradition in our area (Italy)... but having a Christmas tree... why can’t there also be an Easter tree?

It’s a custom that comes from far Scandinavia, north of Europe, it’s about a tree decorated with eggs, bows, ribbons, birds, flowers and Easter and spring symbols

You can get some twigs and put them in a flower vase, seeing that spring is the season for pruning and cleaning green areas

What twigs to choose?

Tradition would dictate:

- from a peach tree, because it’s the first tree that blooms in the spring

- olives, peace symbol

- palm trees, which are associated with Palm Sunday which anticipates Easter and remembers sun rays

- Alamo, since the cross where Jesus was crucified was of Alamo wood

Passionflower and red carnation are characteristic

Passionflower produces passion fruit berries which are used to make drinks and ice cream, it’s called that because it remembers the thorn crown which was placed on Jesus’s head during the crucifixion

The red carnation is used in multiple activities: if not treated and are fresh they can be used in the kitchen, not only as decoration, but also as an ingredient. If let to dry, they are excellent potpourri. Red carnation particularly, is linked to Easter because they seem to have been born from the Virgin’s tears, afflicted by her son’s death

Decorate your Easter tree and celebrate this party with your loved ones in the best way
