How to make a Crochet Egg and Harden it with Starch 2016/03/16

Today we will make step by step a crochet egg that we will later harden with clothes starch, I hope this technique is of your liking

Materials

• Cotton thread
• Crochet needle
• Clothing starch
• Egg, its shell
• Scissors
• Ribbon

To empty the egg shell, I have made a perforation, with the tip of the scissors, large enough for the yolk to come out, I have washed it with some drops of bleach to avoid the smell from impregnating on the work

We begin with a magic ring

1º round: make 8 single stitches

2º round: make 16 single stitches, 2 in each last stitch

3º round: make 16 single stitches

4º round: we will work the crochet net stitch, the first square we will form with 3 chain stitches in the air, plus 2 chain stitches, we stick the hook on the first stitch and make a double crochet; we continue with 2 chain stitches in the in the air, one double crochet until forming 16 squares.

5º round: we make one round with the crochet net stitch

6º round: as decoration we work one round with the slipstitch, in total 48 stitches

7º round: we create a round with the crochet net stitch

8º round: we create the decoration with 48 slipstitches

9º and 10º round: crochet net stitch, here we place the egg inside of the knit

11º and 12º round: make 16 single stitches

13º round: decrease to 8 single stitches and close

We create an 8 cm long handle, we close and finish the knitted part

For the hardening process, we need powder starch, water and a small cup to use the quantity of water and starch

We add the water to the cup and a generous spoonful of starch and dilute it; we place the egg and cover it with something heavy to avoid it from floating; we let it rest half a day

We take out the egg, drain it and sun dry it; when dry we start to break the shell

It is just left to pass the ribbon through the central part for the decoration
