Create a “Paris” poster. Tutorial 2014/11/10

For some years now, Paris has been in fashion as a theme among lovers of “hand-made”, from pendants to T-shirts, from earrings to purses, maybe due to the glamour that inspires this beautiful city and its shinning Eiffel Tower, not to mention its fantastic sweets and pastries for which it became famous.

Since I received as a gift a cute and twinkling magnet of this beautiful city, I’ve been wanted to transfer the design to an object to be used for the celebration of a party, precisely with the Paris theme!

Girls like this theme so much, and for that reason you can have fun making the poster of Paris along with your daughters letting for them the creative part and for you the task of cutting with due caution. Nevertheless, if you get help, consider that maybe later you will end up dealing with the loss of material, which we can say is a bit… sticky!

Approximate measure of the project: 83 cm long x 40 cm tall).

You need:

  • Black paper cardboard
  • Pot of silver glitter
  • Vinyl glue
  • Plastic plate
  • Cutter
  • Adhesive tape, preferably paper
  • Scissors
  • Two newspaper sheets
  • White pencil
  • Model of the Tower and letters

Procedure:

In the computer write the word PARIS with big letters the size of an A4 sheet. Or print templates of the work PARIS and the Eiffel Tower that you can find free at the end of this tutorial.

Cut the patterns.

Place the black cardboard on the working surface and place the Tower’s pattern to the right and the letters to the left, slightly piled.

Once you are satisfied with the position of the model, set it in the cardboard with a piece of adhesive tape (pasting the ends together and remove some adhesive with your fingers to allow a slight grip to the cardboard).

Copy the silhouette again in the black cardboard with the white pencil.

Once you have copied the silhouette, carefully remove the models off the cardboard.

Proceed to cut the Tower’s shape and the word Paris with scissors and the cutter.

Continue placing the newspaper sheets below the silhouette and set them possibly over the working surface. Pour a little of glue in a plastic plate and thin with some water drops. With a brush, distribute the glue starting with the Tower.

Before drying, sprinkle the glitter covering the edges; if you do it with a paintbrush you will get a “scratch” effect, and if you do it with your hands, the obtained effect will be of a “galaxy” (I wore plastic gloves to cover my hands because at the same time I was taking the pictures).

Do the same with each letter; to cover the last word, the S, you can try to recover some the dispersed glitter; once it’s covered with the glitter, let dry for some minutes.

Then, separate the silhouette carefully and pick it up smoothly to let the glitter excess fall over the newspaper.

Place aside the poster and remove the newspaper from the table; turn it on itself to recover the remaining glitter in a way you can collect the waste in a fairly orderly way.

Now you can paste the poster in the wall in an illuminated place, maybe close to mirrors or intermittent lights, this way you’ll see the poster shine.

To have an even shinier poster, you can cover with thick colored glitter, ribbons, tapes, bows, metallic gift-paper, sequins and rhinestones!

And here it is! Comment if you liked it. Until next time!
