What is co-sleeping 2017/02/23

The term co-sleeping or shared dream or sleeping with, comes from sleep-> co ->together, it means the habit of sleeping all together in the same bed.. mom, dad and child or children

Of course I won’t be one to say if it’s right or wrong to do it, since every family is different and the established mechanisms are strictly personal.

I will only limit myself to make a pros and cons list.

WHY YES...

Let’s take inspiration from nature: each animal species, by instinct, sleep with their own pups to protect them from cold and predators. Likewise men as an evolved animal species.

Also, human babies are among the most vulnerable creatures and non-autonomous at the moment of birth, sleeping alongside them will favor nightly feeding, mothers know they can satisfy this need of the baby without having to get out of bed.

According to an American study, babies and small children raced with co-sleeping will be more independent and social because the presence of their parents calms them even during the night.

WHY NOT TO CO-SLEEPING...

We agree that the first months of nightly feeding and not wondering around like a zombie in the middle of the night is important, but then parents also need privacy as a couple.

Sharing the bed ‘can’ put the baby in danger, because with unconscious nightly movements, parents are in risk of asphyxiating or crushing them.

Some maintain that the habit of co-sleeping ruins the child making it difficult for them to go back to their beds.

I clarify that the option of practicing or not co-sleeping is exclusively of the parents, because they know their own child, family dynamics and definitely they will choose the best method for sleeping.
