How to prepare the “Moka” Italian style coffee 2017/07/26

Let’s learn how to prepare a delicious Italian coffee using “Moka” which is the typical Italian coffee maker made in several esthetic ways.

The classic way is the one I represent in this guide and can be found in several sizes according to the amount of coffee you wish to prepare; for example, there is for one cup, 2 cups, 4 cups etc.

You must know that the Italian cup mustn’t be confused with the American cup, since the Italian coffee is much stronger than the American coffee. The size of the cups can be observed in this guide.

This coffee machine can be used to make even a barley coffee for those who can’t drink coffee.

Obviously the preparation method is the same for both of them; in this guide we will prepare a barley coffee

Utensils:

• Moka (coffee maker)

Ingredients:

• Barely
• Sugar
• Water

Fill the water deposit from the Moka up to the security valve level, the Moka has an indicator.

Place the Moka filter

Add the barely being careful not to squeeze or overflow it and clean the edge in case of residual, this is to achieve a hermetic seal when placing the superior part.

For the coffee, it can be compacted a little bit if you want it more intense, avoid compacting it too much since this can activate the security valve due to the excess of pressure from the deposit.

So be very careful, if the valve is faulty the Moka might explode because of the elevated pressure. Remember to compact the coffee or the barely in a moderated way

Close the superior part of the coffee maker screwing accordingly

Start boiling at medium heat with the lid open, until the drink starts coming out

At this time close the Moka lid and turn the fire off as soon as you start hearing the coffee maker gurgle

Serve

Secret: I recommend you to leave a light amount of liquid at the bottom of the Moka in case some barely dust might have entered the upper part

Add sugar to taste, one or two teaspoons
