How to organize a ‘Befana’ style breakfast! 2017/01/06

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Today I share with you the recipe for a delicious pancake breakfast to celebrate the arrival of Befana, I am sure that this recipe will make the children happy and even the adults!

But before I will explain to you the meaning of ‘Befana’: the Befana, which is derivative of the word epiphany, is a festivity that belongs to the Italian culture, being a religious celebration related to Christmas celebrations. Legend tells that the Befana visits the children the night before the epiphany, the 6th of January, leaving presents in their socks candy or chocolates if they have been good or coal if they have been naughty...

This is why these pancakes have the shape of a sock because they remind us of Befana’s arrival. Well let’s go! Which are very easy to prepare, we start with the recipe.

Necessary ingredients

  • 160 grams of type 00 flour (refined wheat flour)
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 80 grams of sugar
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1 glass orange soda
  • 40 grams of melted butter

We mix all the dry ingredients, meaning the flour, baking powder and sugar and then all the wet ingredients separately

Once these steps are done we slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ones, until getting a homogenous mixture

COOKING:

To a large pan we add some butter, then we start making the shape of the socks, I recommend keeping it on low heat

DECORATION:

  • Sweet sauce of wild strawberry to decorate
  • Powdered sugar
  • Sparkly edible pens
  • Fresh fruit

We recommend you watch the following video to see all the steps
