HOW TO DEAL WITH FEAR OF WATER 2015/07/17

WATER… The most precious chemical compound we have.

It is present in every ecosystem, it is the indispensable base for all life forms, including the man.

When bathing our children they remember the amniotic fluid, which makes them feel relaxed and calm. In many pools special swimming courses are organized for parents and babies, precisely for the beneficial effect of water.

As children grow up they begin to fear the water, especially if they find a large amount like the ocean, the lake or pool, risking ruining the plans we made for vacations.

Don’t make drama out of this and don’t blame or make fun of the little ones. With a little patience and touch you will see they become a little fish! Don’t pretend to solve the problem in a couple of days, consider a swimming course over the winter with the goal of infusing confidence in them with this element.

Don’t make them go in the water at all costs or forcibly, we run the risk of traumatizing them even more! It is better to use he gradual method: first wet their feet by walking on the edge or sit with your feet in the pool. Slowly look for ways to encourage them to go further and submerge their legs.

If they truly don’t want to, try taking them in your arms and going to the water.

Remind them that you will always be close to them to support them, encourage and help them. Explain to them that we can go in the water and float with some supports like live savers, inflatable hoops, arm floats and that it can be fun and safe.

The fundamental rule is to pay a lot of attention at all times, don’t distract and never take your guard down. Water can be as wonderful as dangerous.
