Breakfast that helps you grow, this is what you should eat 2017/04/20

We’ve talked many times about of how a healthy and balanced diet is fundamental. Today we will concentrate in the most important meal of the day: breakfast, which gives between 15 to 20% of the necessary daily calories.

Having a good breakfast gives you the energy to confront the many activities of the morning. Unfortunately, only 35% of our children eat the adequate breakfast.

So, what should we eat?

- Cereals: rice, wheat, corn, barley, spelt, millet, oatmeal, rye. Its cultivation goes back to prehistoric times and they are rich in mineral salts, complex sugars, proteins and vitamins. Choosing whole grains promotes intestinal regulation.

- Milk: It’s good for many reasons, it contains calcium, vitamins, and has little calories. Those who have digestion or allergy problems, can consume milk with no lactose or one of a vegetable origin. Yogurt is an excellent derivative of milk.

- Tea: it is detoxing and digestive and has antioxidant properties. For children, it’s better those that don’t have theine, since this can be a stimulant for them.

- Cookies, bread and jam: Cookies must be consumed with moderation as some of them contain ingredients that give additional calories (cream, drops of chocolate, cacao, etc). Bread with jam gives you a lot of energy, let’s read the label closely to prefer and choose jams with the highest percentage of fruit.

- Fruit: we know the benefits of fresh fruit; and we can also consume it in juices of fresh fruit or fruit mixed with milk. Dry fruit has many beneficial properties, but it is very high in calories and must be consumed in moderation.

- Let’s not forget a good glass of water because of the many benefits it gives us!

Teach the children the good habit of having an adequate breakfast based on their daily caloric needs. And every once in a while, let’s grant our kids some cookies with cream!
